Volunteer on Koh Phra Thong

Golden Buddha Beach Resort has a number of opportunities available to volunteers, both directly with the resort and with our affiliates such as Naucrates (www.naucrates.org).  You may learn more about turtle conservation on our island here.

Positions are available to enthusiastic individuals who have both an interest in the environment and sustainable development. Roles vary from bio-diversity mapping to teaching English to local people (as a rule of thumb, this has the potential to double their earning capacity). No previous experience is necessary.

This year, an energetic group led by Pipap and Ali went to the local island school on International Children's Day. By playing games and dressing the children as turtles, they delivered a message about the importance of conservation of natural resources to the island children. It is hoped that as these children grow, they will educate their parents and peers.

In addition, we are looking for botanists and zoologists interested in establishing long term research programs in Thailand. The island, Koh Phra Thong, provides a unique environment with relatively little impact from man with a mixture of forest, mangrove forest, open savannah and ocean accessed beaches in a large estuary. The island is found on Google Earth at lat 9.120385N and lon 98.251344E.

A sea turtle, mangrove forest and coral reef conservation project is currently operated by Naucrates, an Italian NGO in collaboration with the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) and the Ranong Coastal Resource Research Station (RCRRS). The project is registered at the National Research Council in Thailand and it is based at Golden Buddha Beach Resort, southern Thailand.
