Where is Koh Phra Thong?

Golden Buddha Island is about 500 km southwest of Bangkok  and about 150 km north of Phuket's airport on the southwest coast of Thailand .  It is about 9 degrees north of the equator with a pleasant year-around tropical climate.

Getting to Koh Phra Thong

Whether you spell it Goh, Koh, Kho or Ko it is still an island. Traveling to Golden Buddha Island is an adventure and will give you an opportunity to see many of Thailand 's natural wonders.(click here for a map of our resort)

• Fly from Bangkok to Phuket (Thai Airways, Bangkok Air, Nok Air or Air Asia)
• Overland from Phuket to Kuraburi (Golden Buddha Resort can arrange for a minibus/private car starting at 2500 baht each way)
• Boat from Kuraburi pier to Koh Phra Thong (Golden Buddha Island). There is no scheduled ferry boat service. A private boat will be arranged by the resort; either a classic Thai longtail boat for 1700 baht each way or a speedboat for 6000 Baht (one way). The longtail boat ride from Kuraburi to Golden Buddha takes about 1.5 hours while the speedboat takes only 30 minutes.
• NEW: Air Asia is now offering flights from Bangkok to Ranong. These flights are only offered a few times per week and only one flight per day. Please check their website for availably on your scheduled check in date. The advantages of flying into Ranong rather than Phuket is that the drive time to Kuraburi pier is reduced by a full hour.
• Alternatively, take the overnight bus from Bangkok to Kuraburi and then we will arrange a boat for you to the resort.

Estimated journey time from central Bangkok to resort check-in is between 3 and 6 hours depending on transportation options.

If you are interested in alternative routes to Golden Buddha Island or would like us to arrange for transport from Phuket, Surathani or Krabi to the boat departure point for the island, then please contact us for advice.

All guests need to contact the transportation desk by email well before arrival to arrange ground transportation: either a combination of boat and private car transportation or seaplane from Phuket. On short notice, telephone Thanya, 08 1892 2208.

NOTE: Plan on 2.5 hours by private car from Phuket Airport to reach Kuraburi pier or 1.5 hours from Ranong Airport in the north. It takes an additional 85 minutes by boat to reach the resort from the pier. While there is only one flight offered from Bangkok to Ranong, there are several different flights that arrive in Phuket throughout the day. For car transfer to Kuraburi, the latest pickup time in Phuket is generally 13:30 ( 1:30pm ). As a convenience for our guests, we can arrange transportation to the island for flights scheduled to arrive between 13:30 & 16:00 at a surcharge of 1,600 baht per party. Any arrival time in Phuket after 16:00 will require an overnight in Phuket, Khao Lak, or Kuraburi. Our reservations department will assist with all overnight stays (recommendations, reservations, and transportation.)

The cost by private car from Phuket to the resort is about 3000 Thai Baht per way. Our resort employs local drivers who use fuel efficient 1.5. litre Toyata Vios. For groups of three or more people we can arrange for a larger vehicle for a small premium. For large groups a mini-bus is also available.
