Description:
Baan Sabai Jai, one of Golden Buddha's most traditional Thai houses, means "Home of the Happy Heart" in Thai. This is exactly how you will feel while enjoying the cool sea breezes and relaxing ocean views from this elevated, two storey beach home. Divided into two parts, the main structure contains the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, while the open air sala is attached to the right of the house. Native wood and a thatched roof are the prominent materials used in building this authentic Thai home.

The stairs first lead up to the sala, which is a simple covered living area designed for relaxing in the sea breeze. All four walls are open but the thatched roof provides shade and protection from the elements. Hard wood floors and matching furniture complete the sala.

The stairs continue up to the veranda of the main house, which wraps around the entire side and front. A unique integrated bench forms both the side railing of the veranda and provides a great place to sit and enjoy the view.

Inside is the large first storey bedroom designed for life in the tropics. Rattan walls come up only waist high to meet the window frames. From here, wooden panels tilt upward and lock in place letting in the maximum amount of cool air while still providing privacy and protection. Dark stained hardwood floors and two single beds finish the bedroom.

The attached downstairs bathroom makes use of more natural wood and stone floors. It has a shower, western toilet, and vanity unit.

Up the staircase is the master bedroom with its king size bed and wall to ceiling windows all around. A private veranda/balcony faces the sea for a great ocean view.

Recommendations:
Baan Sabai Jai's practical and spacious design is perfect for a family or a group of friends traveling together. A great overall value. Because this is a sea view house, it is not as exposed to the elements during the rainy season. The beach, however, is only a minute's walk away. Please note that the elevated design may be problematic for families with young children.

About the owners
Happy and Barbara Heilman built the house in the 90's as the tropical Thai counterpart to their secluded forest retreat in rural Tennesse. The Southern hospitality that Tennessee is known for has traveled intact to this equally secluded and tranquil landscape in Southern Thailand.
