About the resort
If you despair of the rampant developments found on better-known Thai islands like Phuket or Samui, then Ko Phra Thong is the right location for you. Away from the tourist crowds, our remote island remains barely inhabited and gloriously unspoilt.
Built on the edge of the national park, Golden Buddha Beach Resort is a collection of 29 wooden cabins and treehouses, carefully designed in a traditional style, and generously sprinkled along the shoreline. The resort is happily located on two seas, the sheltered bay and a beautiful and deserted 12-kilometre beach, fringed by coconut trees.
bay beach club
Whilst the Clubhouse is the heart of the resort at night, our guests spend long stretches of day time in the bay. Here you can walk, read, observe the intricate patterns made by mud crabs, collect shells, sunbathe, watch the few boats which connect us to Kuraburi on the mainland, snooze.. The vast tranquille panorama is punctuated by the two small Pling Islands in the center of the bay: they can be reached by kayaks for a secluded swim or for a snorkelling afternoon. You can also borrow a stand up paddle (SUP) and explore the creek at the back of the resort, or choose to practise yoga and meditation.
Tucked away in one corner of the bay is the yoga sala, where our qualified instructors deliver twice daily, as well as on demand classes. Hatha-based creative and often dynamic Vinyasa flow make up the morning yoga class. Afternoon classes include aspects of meditation and Pranayama (breathing techniques), and gentle yoga. There are showers and toilet facilities at the foot of Hornbill Hill, the rocky cliff which delimits the bay from the open beach.
The bay beach club is opened from 11am to 5pm everyday. Here we serve home-made pizzas, salads and sandwiches alongside wines, beer and soft drinks, as well as snacks and home made ice cream.
The heart of the resort is the clubhouse, where you can dine, read, drink, relax and meet new friends. You will find yourself drawn here over and over again, even if only to grab a cool box filled with ice, or fresh drinks to take to the beach.
The clubhouse, closely framed by lush gardens, faces the setting sun in the west and provides the perfect place to watch the clouds waft by or contemplate the glorious sunsets. The first floor is a dedicated lounging space, with its own bar, a pool table and plenty of comfortable sitting to while away the afternoon, enjoy the sunset or relax with friends in the evening; whilst the dining room is located on the ground floor. Terraces have been enlarged all around the main room to create relaxing and comfortable sitting areas for families and larger groups, whilst protecting the privacy of those seeking a quieter dining experience.
The downstairs bar is opened all day and offers a whole range of fruit smoothies, cocktails, beers and wines, as well as teas, herbal drinks and coffees. The upstairs bar is manned from 5pm until late everyday and is the place to enjoy a sundowner at the end of a hot day.
All the gifts in the shop are made in Thailand. They are carefully curated and most come directly from artisans and cooperatives.
This year in particular we have selected a unique collection of rings from up and coming jeweler Jakkrid Kulnawong; perfectly turned teapots and cups from Jirawong Wontrangan, who will be artist in residence at the resort in March/April 2018. There are hand-embroidered arty T-shirts and card prints from two young women artists in Northern Thailand; simple but beautiful lacquerware; luxurious handwoven cotton fabrics from western and southern Thailand, made by women cooperatives using ancestral patterns with flair and a great sense of colour; handmade notebook binders produced by a lovely young architect in Chiangmai; a range of natural hemp and batik coloured table mats made by a mother-daughter team; and much much more.
